“Never confuse a single defeat with a final defeat”

A great quote by F. Scott Fitzgerald. A quote that has given me a lot of encouragement over the last few weeks. Defeat, loss and disappointment are inevitable in life. What do we do to get back on our feet?

It’s perfectly acceptable to mull around for a few days. Ok, I may have taken almost a whole week and sat by the pool and drank a few glasses (bottles) of wine and pondered over recent ramifications in my life. It was a necessity to move forward.

Some recent struggles have been thrown my way and it put me through quite the whirlwind. I wasn’t sure if and when I would get back up on my feet. I am unfortunately not the most patient at times, and was getting quite antsy sitting around my apartment watching yet another three hours of the Today show. I wonder how they manage to come up with three hours of non-news-worthy content every single day? That’s beside the point. After I had enough of Hoda and Kathie Lee, I turned off the TV and really asked myself, “what do I want to do with my life?” The door was open to countless opportunities, I just needed to find out where I could fit in.

One of the most important things I have learned through this personal ordeal, is that you come out stronger in the end. You can get stuck doing the same old thing for years and not realize you need a change until you are physically kicked to the curb. Sometimes we all need that.

Now that the dust has settled and I am finally seeing some light in my direction, I am very hopeful about the future. I may have had a confusing, heart-wrenching, sick-to-my-stomach defeat, but I feel as if I have come out stronger and ready to conquer the world.

Well, maybe not the world, yet. I still have a lot to learn.

“Failure is only the opportunity to begin again, this time more wisely.”- Henry Ford

  1. Hi Erin,

I work for the company that produces Mutual of Omaha’s aha moment campaign; check out http://www.mutualofomaha.com/aha to see what an aha moment is and the incredible stories we’ve filmed over the last several years. As I came across your website, I couldn’t help but think that you might have an aha moment to share.

For the 5th year, we’re taking our 34-foot Airstream mobile film studio on the road again for the 2014 Aha Moment Tour, visiting 20 cities across America to capture inspirational, life-changing aha moments from folks all over the country. We are headed to St. Cloud, MN on July 10th and 11th and would love to invite you to share an aha moment, and how your life has changed since. It can be about your work, your family or other life experiences. You would just have to step into the Airstream studio for a few minutes and tell your story on film to our tour producer. Your video will then be posted to http://www.mutualofomaha.com/aha, where you will be able to share it with your friends and family via email, Facebook and Twitter!

On July 10th and 11th from 10am to 6pm, we will be parked at the Great River Regional Library, 1300 W. St. Germain Street, St. Cloud, MN 56301. Here is a map link to the location: https://goo.gl/maps/c6HNS

We’d love to have you. Let me know as soon as possible and I can reserve your time slot.

    Many thanks!

    Rachel Clark
